Physical Education at St Nicholas
We aim to…
The intent of St. Nicholas Primary’s Physical Education curriculum is to inspire all children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. Physical Education will provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities will be offered to all children to build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
How we will achieve our aims…
Each class takes part in PE sessions twice a week which are carefully planned and mapped out to ensure a broad and full range of skills and activities. One of these sessions is delivered by a specialist coach. Children in all years attend swimming lessons at Southminster swimming pool where they are taught to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance. In addition to PE in curriculum time, we also strive to provide opportunities for children to access extra-curricular physical activities through a range of sporting competitions and active clubs.
How will we know we’ve achieved our aims?
All children receive a broad and balanced PE curriculum regardless of year group or ability. Every child will access all the key areas of the subject on offer at our school. Teachers plan PE with clear progression of skills and knowledge that we have devised as part of our curriculum offer to ensure that all children access it at an age-appropriate level. The children can take part in competitions throughout the school year against other local schools.
