At St Nicholas’, we are incredibly fortunate to have a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that goes above and beyond to support our school. Their dedication to sourcing grants and leading fundraising initiatives has had a lasting and meaningful impact on our pupils’ learning and wellbeing.
One of the PTA’s most remarkable achievements has been securing funding from Hackblock Educational Charity Grants and Maldon District Council for the creation of a Sensory Room. This specially designed space provides a calm, supportive environment for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to regulate their emotions, develop sensory awareness, and feel safe and understood. The Sensory Room has quickly become an essential part of our school, offering a haven where pupils can thrive both emotionally and academically.
Thanks to the PTA’s successful grant applications from Essex Community Grants and fundraising efforts, we’ve also been able to enhance our playground and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) continuous provision area. These improvements have created vibrant, engaging spaces where children can explore, play, and learn through hands-on experiences. From new climbing structures to imaginative play resources, these additions have enriched the daily lives of our pupils and supported their physical, social, and cognitive development. G&B Finch have also generously donated products to wards the creation of planting beds and Sandpits.
The PTA’s work doesn’t stop here. Looking to the future, they are now turning their attention to an exciting new project: the redevelopment of the old swimming pool area. The vision is to transform this underused space into a picnic and outdoor learning area—a flexible, nature-inspired environment where children can enjoy lessons in the fresh air, connect with the outdoors, and share social time with friends and family.
In addition, the PTA remains committed to supporting enrichment opportunities across the school. From funding workshops and trips to providing resources for clubs and creative activities, their ongoing efforts ensure that every child at St Nicholas’ has access to a broad, inspiring, and inclusive education.
The work of the St Nicholas’ PTA is a shining example of what can be achieved when a school community comes together with a shared purpose. Their passion, creativity, and commitment continue to make a real difference in the lives of our children.
